      Trincomalee Beach is a natural harbour. This Beach/Bay is historically significant as many like Ptolemy and Marco Polo have arrived here. It became an important destination for East Asian and Chinese sea Traders at one point of time. Trinco was a under Dutch, French, English and Portuguese influence. Its temperate climate gives the city a very different feel from other parts of the country and, along with the colonial architecture has earned it the name ‘Little England’.It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft)and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is also known for the temperate, cool climate, the city is known for being the coolest area in Sri Lanka.       Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala is notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala.

      The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded.
